ARCHIBUS Releases New Performance Benchmarks

New Guidelines Encapsulate Experience of Global-Scale Enterprises

February 17, 2010 — Boston, Massachusetts

ARCHIBUS Inc. (www.archibus.com), the #1 developer worldwide of real estate, infrastructure, and facilities management software, has updated its sizing benchmarks for global IWMS (Integrated Workplace Management Systems)  to reflect actual user experience and future needs, including centralizing global data, virtualized server management, and cloud computing.

“As the world’s most powerful, and widely used, intuitive business transformation platform, ARCHIBUS has been stress-tested like no other solution,” said Bruce Forbes, President/CEO and Founder. “We’re proud that over 4 million ARCHIBUS users worldwide share information instantly, eliminate friction in their work processes, and gain new insight into how their real estate, facility, and infrastructure portfolios can more effectively drive their organizational missions. These updated benchmarks codify deployment practice at our largest clients, illustrating how ARCHIBUS has kept pace with the accelerating needs of these global organizations. The benchmarks also demonstrate how they can rely on ARCHIBUS as an essential complement to their ERP suite.”

 Highly Scalable Results

A typical benchmark test is the Geo-Test, which simulates 8,000 concurrent users querying the system continuously – a load level consistent with an organization of 200,000 users each accessing ARCHIBUS daily. The test involves a 14 million-record database assembled from actual global-scale deployments. When run on a single HP ProLiant DL785 G6 server, ARCHIBUS Web Central processed 2,700 requests per second. Even at the heaviest load, average user page loads remained below 2.5 seconds, and the average CPU utilization below 26%. Pure performance aside, ARCHIBUS also remains the most economical consumer of hardware in its class; even calculated at full list price, the hardware configuration for the Geo-Test translates into just over $4.00 per concurrent user.

Robust Performance Based on Actual Usage

The ARCHIBUS benchmarks derive from customer experience and from a multi-dimensional test plan,  ensuring response times, CPU load, and memory use remain in check even as the number of users, servers, and data grow to a global-enterprise scale. The test methodology uses a variety of configurations testing scale-up, scale-out, and virtualized strategies, and follows a wide range of real-world user profiles – from casual, to those using intensive dashboards and analytics, to those using Web-based graphics or interfaces involving CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and BIM (Building Information Modeling).

“The user profiles are a key strength of our regular testing methodology,” says Steve Segarra, Chief Technology Officer at ARCHIBUS Inc. “They make certain that the metered load tests do not test theoretical conditions but instead reflect the actual usage of thousands of users with all the intricacies of staggered timing, peak login demands, CAD, BIM, dashboards and hard analysis – all working at once.  Using the ARCHIBUS profiles ensures that under these intensive conditions, average page loads remain below 2.5 seconds.

Benefits of Longevity in Field and Production Tested Experience

“ARCHIBUS is the most widely-deployed solution in the world with the longest continuous development of any package on the market, and all our users benefit from this field-tested experience,” explains Nick Stefanidakis, Director of Client Services. “I have confidence in the ARCHIBUS benchmarks for global IWMS deployments, because we use higher test loads than client sites typically face in production. For example, we have a state government whose deployment includes thousands of concurrent users.  This heavily-used configuration employs a 40% lower load based on the state’s own sizing estimation.  We feel that our conservative figures are appropriate because, while particular sites can tune to the actual load distribution of their users, we have to be prepared for almost any kind of use.”
