TIFM Business Alliance Award
To the organizations that, together with ARCHIBUS, are creating tools and systems that enable the most effective and efficient Business Practices. These international companies are having a global influence on the healthy growth of the FM automation industry.
  • IBM – Germany

Rationale: IBM realized key business results in 9 months and saved $500,000 USD by migrating its legacy real estate applications from disparate hardware and software platforms to one “state-of-the-art,” Web-based, ARCHIBUS platform. That platform was also able to import and export financial data to and from IBM’s SAP implementation. ARCHIBUS was customized, and along with existing plug-in modifications, was able to achieve IBM-Germany’s FM goals of having accurate real estate data as well as the ability to track leasing contracts through their lifecycles.
  • KBC Bank NV

Rationale: In the year 2000, KBC Bank was confronted with 80 facility management applications being used on a variety of sometimes incompatible or isolated operating and database systems. Within five years, the massive job of integrating those applications down to three was accomplished, and features one of the broadest implementations of ARCHIBUS anywhere, supporting 25 FM processes and including interfaces to SAP and other ERP systems.
  • Prudential Financial

Rationale: In the downsizing environment at Prudential Financial, and with Sarbanes-Oxley’s stringent compliance regulations, Prudential Financial was forced to revisit current policies and procedures and develop a new method of charging/tracking rents to internal groups. Prudential created a customized Web-based chargeback system that resulted in dramatic improvements in the company’s space management processes. The result has been more proactive oversight of leases and space utilization/consolidation that is reducing real estate costs and increasing SarbOx compliance.

Application Excellence Award
This award is being presented to the organizations that have demonstrated a unique, innovative application of the ARCHIBUS software to their company's own needs and overall structure. All of these organizations can be viewed as explorers and visionaries who, early on, had the courage to "push the envelope" and "see outside of the box." None of them are new to the challenges and rewards of TIFM.
  • Constellation Energy -- Darrell Holmes and Polly Douglass
Rationale: In replacing a legacy system, ARCHIBUS was deployed and extended throughout the organization by virtue of Corporate Real Estate’s broader use of it, the integration with other enterprise systems, and by the deployment of FM Metrics to improve space efficiency and adherence to corporate space standards As a result, ARCHIBUS is helping Constellation save hundreds of thousands of dollars through better space utilization and lease management.
  • ExxonMobil Global Services Company – Chuck Frazier
Rationale: Faced with the challenge of interfacing and integrating ARCHIBUS data with a proprietary mainframe-based accounting system, ExxonMobil staffers worked for two years with ARCHIBUS representatives to create seamless links between FM and accounting applications. In spite of budgets that fluctuated, making completion seem uncertain at times, the company succeeded in creating an ARCHIBUS solution that manages many tasks -- from work orders, printing and more -- for five Houston, Texas company campuses comprising more than 6 million square feet.
  • Government Communications Bureau -- Kevin Rankin

Rationale: Mr. Rankin and his colleagues have extended the functionality of the ARCHIBUS Telecom & Cable application so that it matches more closely UK practices. GCB have created an Oracle forms-based set of activities that improve the user interface and data update. He has kept ARCHIBUS within GCB despite the pressure to move to another application.
  • Great American Insurance -- Jeff Paul

Rationale: Since 2000, Great American Insurance has been using ARCHIBUS to help manage facility information with tremendous success. With little fanfare, the implementation team, led by Jeff Paul, has made significant advancements in the areas of facility documentation, standards, common processes, and facility awareness. Starting with a small implementation of Space Management for the downtown Cincinnati campus, the team has expanded the ARCHIBUS solution to encompass the entire nationwide organization, and has also interfaced it to other corporate systems, such as HR, to leverage existing data and share facility information. Information is accessible by individuals across the company via the FM Web Central interface.

Their success is due in large part to the leadership of Jeff Paul who has assembled a trained and self-sustaining team to manage ARCHIBUS and keep it up-to-date. They have ensured that processes are in place to maintain the integrity of the drawings and data, and have positioned ARCHIBUS as an important, utilized, and relevant system at Great American Insurance.
  • The University of Hong Kong – Implementation Team: Senior Management from Facilities, Finance, and Computer Centre

Rationale: As one of the top English teaching universities in Asia, the University of Hong Kong was an early pioneer from the Education sector in adopting CAFM technologies in 1993-4. HKU have been practicing continuous improvement on CAFM since 2000, when significant resources were committed to enhancing their ARCHIBUS system. Thanks to a highly committed Implementation Team consisting of senior management staff from the Facilities Management Office, the Finance Office and also the Computer Centre, they have continued to customize and personalize ARCHIBUS on an ongoing basis in recent years.

Distinguished User Award
This award is presented to an organization or an individual who has provided sustained leadership in its FM automation practices and implementation.
  • British Energy Limited – Brian Joyce

Rationale: British Energy, a long-time user of ARCHIBUS, has expanded the use of its system to manage space utilisation and recharge, assets, and planned preventive maintenance. The value of their system has been successfully promoted within the organisation leading to senior management recognition.
  • ConocoPhillips -- Mark Abbott, Corey Stukey, Joe Simon, Claude Wisinger, Danny Merciez

Rationale: Following an aggressive three-month initial timeline to implement key sites in Houston, Bartlesville and Ponca City, ConocoPhillips continues to expand its use of ARCHIBUS as their primary Workplace Management solution. The system is integrated with 12 other ConocoPhillips systems (Finance, HR, IT, etc.) and has redefined the daily work processes of the Facilities enterprise. This is an exciting period for the Global Facilities group as they are being asked by facilities teams in other parts of the world for some of the new processes and applications, and will now integrate the United Kingdom sites into the space management system and Workplace Management System Web interface.
  • GEICO -- Laurel Perkins

Rationale: The GEICO team was successful in upgrading from ARCHIBUS V.11 to ARCHIBUS 14.3. With the help of their service provider, BRG, they are quickly seeing the benefits of a strong TIFM solution. They are already planning to expand to the Web as well as migrate current lease information into ARCHIBUS. This is an important transition for GEICO in recognizing that ARCHIBUS is conducive to a more proactive management approach.
  • Kaiser Permanente -- Mike Mannina

Rationale: With a team of only 5, managing 60 million square feet (including 450 medical offices, 31 hospitals, and 1,000+ buildings), Mannina has overseen the growth of a remarkable ARCHIBUS deployment. Besides defending their reporting to Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement auditors with ARCHIBUS data, they also use it for the JCAHO Statement of Condition, and Department of Health Surveys. The accomplishments at Kaiser are impressive, given they are not a top-down organization and, for this initiative from headquarters to succeed, considerable work needed to be done to enlist all hospitals and regions cooperatively in the enterprise-wide data-sharing.
  • NASA Goddard Space Flight Center -- Ches Looney, Parsons

Rationale: Ches has over 50 years at Goddard Space Flight Center and, now in his late 70's, is still working there. Ches has gone from paper and pen to the computer age—currently working with ARCHIBUS for Space Management. Ches puts in countless hours, coming in on weekends and during his time off, and is dedicated to the cause of Space Management at Goddard Space Flight Center for NASA. Ches, even at his advanced age, is open to and eagerly accepts change, and is always looking for ways to improve the ARCHIBUS Software.
  • Providence Health Systems -- Nancy Beshear

Rationale: In a leadership role at Providence, Nancy Beshear has expanded the ARCHIBUS usage from just Medicare Reimbursements for the hospital to handling the maintenance operations for the Property Management group of 200+ buildings (replacing Datastream). She has also created an interface with Lawson financials for Non-Affiliate Rents, and continues to foster the expansion of ARCHIBUS to Clinical Engineering (TSS) and Plant Management. Their systems integrator, ADSI, is now implementing ARCHIBUS system-wide for 42 hospitals, replacing MP2.
  • Serco Health Systems– Kevin Rye

Rationale: A leading business service company based in London and long-standing and valued user of ARCHIBUS, Serco has now implemented the system on three different National Health Services sites throughout the United Kingdom, to provide facilities helpdesk, asset and space management as part of their PFI (Private Finance Initiative) projects.

Outstanding Educator Award
This award recognizes excellence in developing curriculum and instructing students in FM automation at an accredited college, university or institute.
  • Deborah Lott & Gary Vernick, City University of New York (CUNY)

Rationale: Deborah Lott came to City University of New York and found 20 campuses using different and incompatible databases to manage facilities and space management data, all of which created enormous inefficiencies. By rolling out ARCHIBUS to each campus, and centralizing space utilization/allocation information at the main campus, CUNY has consolidated information, created a distributed system for data reporting and retrieval, and standardized facilities management processes across CUNY’s campuses. Just as important, CUNY’s more accurate room utilization data improved grant indirect and direct cost rate recovery by 26.9% and 37.9%, respectively.

With the unwavering dedication, professionalism, and support of Rick Martin, of Online, Inc., Keni Evans has led the expansion. In addition to managing facility, lease, and capital expenditure request information, First Horizon also tracks about 650 pieces of art that have been bar-coded and photographed. Maintenance and utility invoices are also tracked to help provide comprehensive square footage cost and energy analysis. On-demand and Preventive Maintenance work orders are created and requests are entered via the Web and routed to the craftsperson’s handheld Blackberry device where they are completed and the system updated. In addition, the Real Property & Lease Management application is very heavily used as the bank has over 1,200 locations in the United States.
  • Providence Health System -- Nancy Beshear

Rationale: Nancy understands how ARCHIBUS can help many areas of an organization. Under her leadership, a custom FM Web Central Form was developed for move management organization-wide. Besides using move management, lease management, and maintenance management in the Property Division and Bio-Med Dept., Nancy continues to foster the expansion of ARCHIBUS to Clinical Engineering (TSS) and Plant Management. Additionally, she will bring the Alaska Property Management division on the ARCHIBUS system in 2006.
  • Sacramento Municipal Utility District -- Scott Blangeres and Rafael Fuentes

Rationale: Sacramento Municipal Utility District, a long-time user of ARCHIBUS has successfully fought off SAP to re-implement an enterprise FM tool. SMUD first implemented ARCHIBUS V.6 and successfully upgraded to V.10, when their IT Dept. and senior management decided to replace it with the SAP enterprise solution (circa 2000). The Facilities group abided by the decision and put forth their best effort using SAP for maintenance management and limited space management.

After almost two years, a concerted effort led by Rafael Fuestes was waged to bring ARCHIBUS back into the fold. The battle was won and ARCHIBUS Space has been re-implemented in greater depth than before to include Web portal components for space chargeback reporting. Additionally, the SAP maintenance management solution was replaced by ARCHIBUS Building Operations with a fully Web-based portal to aid the workflow. Further, the SMUD Transportation group elected ARCHIBUS for Fleet Management (over SAP). Senior Management is fully aware of the benefits the ARCHIBUS solution brings, due to strong internal champions.
